Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Koku mobile application ("the app", "Koku", "we", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Koku, you agree to these Terms.
1. Service description
Koku is a recipe management app that allows you to extract, organize, and cook recipes from various online sources including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, websites, photos, and text. The app uses artificial intelligence to convert recipe content into a structured format for personal use.
2. Free and paid features
Koku offers a free tier with limited recipe extractions per month, and a paid subscription ("Koku Pro") that provides unlimited extractions. All other features — recipe storage, cookbooks, meal planning, grocery lists, cook mode — are available to all users regardless of subscription status.
Subscription terms
- Koku Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription.
- A 7-day free trial is available for new subscribers.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage and cancel your subscription in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- No refunds are provided for partial subscription periods. Refund requests should be directed to Apple.
3. Acceptable use
You agree to use Koku only for personal, non-commercial recipe management. You may not:
- Use the app to systematically scrape, archive, or redistribute content from third-party platforms.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the app.
- Use the app in any way that violates applicable laws or the terms of service of third-party platforms.
- Attempt to circumvent subscription limits or usage restrictions.
4. Intellectual property
The Koku app, including its design, code, branding, and features, is owned by Koku and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Your recipes and personal data stored in the app remain yours.
Recipe content extracted from third-party sources (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, websites) is the intellectual property of the original creators. Koku extracts recipes for your personal reference — similar to copying a recipe by hand. We encourage you to credit original creators and visit their content.
5. Third-party content
Koku processes content from third-party platforms. We are not responsible for the accuracy, safety, or legality of third-party content. Recipe extractions are AI-generated interpretations and may contain errors in ingredients, quantities, or instructions. Always use your own judgment when cooking, especially regarding food allergies and safety.
6. Disclaimer of warranties
Koku is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that recipe extractions will be perfectly accurate. AI-powered extraction is inherently imperfect — always verify critical information like allergens and cooking temperatures.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Koku and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to damages from inaccurate recipe extractions, data loss, or service interruptions.
8. Data and privacy
Your use of Koku is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your information.
9. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to Koku at any time for violations of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion. You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it and canceling any active subscriptions.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles.
