Privacy Policy

Koku ("we", "our", "the app") is a recipe extraction and management app. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Data stored on your device

Your recipes, cookbooks, meal plans, grocery lists, and app preferences (language, units, theme) are stored locally on your device using an on-device database. We do not have access to this data and it never leaves your device except as described below.

Data processed by our servers

When you import a recipe by providing a URL, image, or text, we send that content to our server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) to process the extraction. Specifically:

• URLs you submit are sent to our server to fetch page content, resolve redirects, and check our recipe cache.
• Images you submit are sent temporarily to Google's Gemini AI for analysis. They are not stored permanently.
• Video content from YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok is processed transiently — video data is never stored on our servers or your device beyond the extraction session.

Cached recipes

When a recipe is successfully extracted from a URL, the structured recipe data (title, ingredients, instructions) may be cached on our server for up to 30 days. This cache is keyed to the source URL, not to your identity, and is used to serve faster results to any user who imports the same URL. No personal information is included in the cache.

Subscription data

If you subscribe to Koku Pro, your subscription is processed through Apple's App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID — we do not collect your name, email, or Apple ID through this process.

2. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Koku:

• Google Gemini AI — processes recipe content (text, images, video) for extraction. Subject to Google's API Terms of Service.
• YouTube Data API — fetches video metadata and transcripts for YouTube recipe extraction. Subject to YouTube's Terms of Service.
• Cloudflare — hosts our server infrastructure and recipe cache. Subject to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
• RevenueCat — manages subscription status. Subject to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
• Apple App Store — processes payments. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

3. What We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any personal contact information.
• We do not track your location.
• We do not use analytics or advertising SDKs.
• We do not sell, rent, or share any data with advertisers or data brokers.
• We do not create user profiles or track your behavior across apps or websites.

4. Data Retention

Recipe cache entries are automatically deleted after 30 days. Subscription status data is retained by RevenueCat for as long as your subscription is active. All data on your device is under your control and can be deleted by uninstalling the app or clearing app data.

5. Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal information or maintain user accounts, there is no personal data for us to access, modify, or delete on our servers. Your recipe data exists only on your device. If you have questions about data processed through our third-party services, you may contact those services directly using the links above.

6. Children's Privacy

Koku is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
